Someone to Lean On, also known as SOLO, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was established in 2023 by founder and U.S. Army veteran, Quinard McDonald. After relocating back to his home state of California to care for his aging mother, Quinard came to recognize and appreciate the immense challenges presented to those tasked with caring for an aging loved one. Quinard quickly came to the realization that providing sufficient medical and social care fosters a mental and emotional stress which is particular and unique to family caregivers.
With this newly acquired experience, dialoguing with other family caregivers about their struggles, and recognizing the need for better resources to aid individuals in family caregiving, Quinard took the steps to bring together a group of trusted individuals for the purpose of establishing a charitable organization to help fill the gaps in caregiving support.
Together, this group has developed the foundations of SOLO. Operating out of the Los Angeles metropolitan area on a local level, but with aims of providing support on a national scale, SOLO is developing into an organization which recognizes the rapidly growing population of family caregivers in the U.S. and seeks to play a role in easing the transition of family members to family caregivers, placing resources and support at their fingertips.
